Avian had some good ones, and:
Victor Lamont Wooten (bass player for Bela Fleck - the only bass solo I've seen that topped Stanley Clarke's) Stuart Hamm (solo and w/Satriani) Jaco Pastorius (Weather Report and solo) I know there's at least one more obvious one I'm forgetting... |

DOH! How could I forget those! I swear Jim is the missing half of my brain! Victor Wooten rocks the house! And who could leave out Jaco?

Ah Yes...
Ah Yes..., You know how you think about these things in advance and then you forget them when you try to write your post? I of course put Les Claypool as a level one. I was blank, but I knew I was forgetting someong. As for Victor Wooten, well, I know the guy's got chops - EXTREME chops, but I don't like his style. Now, that's from someone who's only heard his solo albums. His solo albums are kind like, "hey, I'm a technical trickster," but he doesn't have a lot of emotion, melody construction, etc., on his solo albums. They're kinda show-off-ee. But yes, I know the man has serious skills.
