Re: Top 5 Prog Rock Albums

we've done this a lot....so instead of searching I'll post five anyway. How about a top 100?

1. Discipline - King Crimson (same as Ginjeet!)
2. As the World - Echolyn
3. Unfolded Like Staircase - Discipline
4. The Devouring - Djam Karet

and about 100 others tied for fifth. Sometime I'll list them....

I do think it's good.
The fact is..
no matter how closely I study it,
no matter how I take it apart,
no matter how I break it down,
It remains consistent.

Not razzing on spaz but...

This kind of question is fun if you're playing, and it's good to see new people post in the forums. It's also a question that's not going to go away, as folks discover the Moon.

People who have played before can either take a jab at it again, or go and do stuff that makes them happy. Lots of choice.

Re: Top 5 Prog Rock Albums

Don't worry Pelo, people are enjoying the thread.

As for me, I can't really give a top 5; for some odd reasons every prog album I know gets tied for 1st position when I think about it. I can't really decide.

pelo, post away. I really enjoy seeing what people like. The only "old" thing about threads is when folks complain they are old. Welcome.

Couldn't have said it better myself mossy.

As for my top 5. At this moment in time it is:

1) Tales from topographic oceans - Yes
2) Dark side of the moon - Pink floyd
3) Selling England by the pound - Genesis
4) Pink Moon - Nick Drake (If Leo Kottke is on the Moon then so should Nick be!)
5) Earthbound - King Crimson

Like I said Pelo, you post whatever and whenever you want. It's great to see so many new members on the Moon.

I know it's not going away. I just wish that when new folks come to a place they'd search the boards for a while before posting. If I join a new community, I don't post something the first day. Most boards even have a sticky thread that reads something like "READ THIS FIRST" or "THESE TOPICS ALREADY HAVE FIVE THREADS."

Sure. Here's what you can do. Rip the cd to mp3 at 192kps. Get all the tags perfect - artist, song title, album title, and year - on each track. Use IDv3 tags. Then bundle the whole thing together as one file. Then use www.yousendit.com to send the whole thing to ProgDirJim. You can PM him to get his email address. Finally, be patient. Jim's always got a TON of music to listen to. And be aware that it's not guaranteed it'll get added. Jim is the music director and owner and he decides what is or is not added.

3. King's X - Faith Hope Love

Re: Top 5 Prog Rock Albums

I agree this kind of question is not very usefull , are the others so?

Just for the record and according to my instant inspiration and feeling

Golden age

1. Selling England by the £ By Genesis
2. Pawn Hearts by VDGG
3. Red by King Crimson
4. Isola di niente by PFM
5. Close to the edge by Yes

Today's prog ( so they say , the adjective progressive applied to rock did not exist during the Golden age , some papers named it ' Head rock' in western Europe ( minus UK )

1. Il trono dei recordi eponym
2. Brave by Marillion
3. Ever by Iq
4. Flower Power By TFK
5. Il grande labyrintho LA maschera di cera

Re: Top 5 Prog Rock Albums

some thoughts:

Pelo, I didn't think of adding the music that way, good idea Spaz. But Jim has your email to me also.

Spaz, I don't access Progressive Ears because of the sheer voluminosity (fake word, Webster is choking on a adjective there) of the posts. I don't think new members need to search the boards. This forum isn't the easiest to find stuff. I can't even find my old shows if I didn't have them written down. Got a Kx record in there

What I would like to see is some basic info on the new members. Pelo has some background but a lot of new members just out their name in.

And mail you cheated and did a top 10 I have to do a top 100 thread...
