Italian Prog Bands

Hi! I'm an Italian boy of 18 years old and sometimes I hear this fantastic radio (radio? what I say? It's much more!!!). Now, for example, I'm listening to a Saga song, a band never heard before, and this is fantastic, how many bands or artists I know thanks to Aural Moon!

I've seen that you have put many songs of some great Italian bands of the Prog era... Here, they are forgotten (sigh!); I'm glad that someone still remember them; I am fond of these bands, especially PFM, Area, Le Orme.... in the 70's in my country there were a lot of these bands that were not only inspired by English Prog, but also they were original in their way of singing, or in relation to some style of melodies (an example for all: Impressioni di Settembre by PFM).
Now, thanks to you, I have the wonderful opportunity to hear all these bands, especially the ones very very unknown nowadays: Osanna, Banco, Quella Vecchia Locanda, and so on...

Another thing!! I'm the one who select Area songs, on the air in a while now after this di Meola's song; Area is a fantastic band, I am crazy when I listen to the words of Luglio, Agosto, Settembre (nero), their most known track. In their lyrics there is some rebellion against Italian government and society of 70's, politics, etc. I would like to understand better on this fact.... One day I'll return here to write their story, the one of their leader Demetrio Stratos, and their relationship to Italian society. Ehy! Area is on the air now! Le Labbra del Tempo from their first album Arbeit Macht Frei. Cheers!!! Bye!

Your English is much better than my Italian. I always marveled how everyone else can speak English in other countries.

The only words of Italien I can say are Premiata Fornerio Marconi!!!

Hi all,
im 22 years old, im from Slovakia. Im collecting prog albums 7 years.
I like Italian progrock-scene very much.
My top five Italian albums are:
1. Museo Rosenbach - Zarathustra
2. Banco Del Mutuo Soccorso - Darwin!
3. Il Balletto Di Bronzo - YS
4. Metamorfosi - Inferno
5. Cervello - Melos

I think, that Italian progrock is unfairly overlooked and overshadowed. For example many Italian albums are perhaps better than British from the same years.
For example i like more Bancos first three albums or Museo Rosenbachs Zarathustra than anything from Yes or Gentle Giant from same time period.

I don't remember ever hearing non-English-language prog before I found AM. Never realized how provincial I was.

Being a native Spanish speaker, is somehow easy to understand a good 70% of the lyrics in italian and if I can read them almost 90%, that's why I never had problems with Prog' in Italian.

Until a few days ago, my favourite albums were:

1.- Darwin (Banco del Mutuo Soccorso)
2.- Per un Amico (PFM)
3.- Storia di un munuto (PFM)
4.- Io Sono Nato Libero (Banco del Mutuo Soccorso)
5.- Forse le Lucciole Non si Amano Piu (Locanda Delle Fate)
6.- Ys (Il Balleto di Bronzo)
7.- Gladium Caeli (Deux Ex Machina): Rock Opera with lyrics in Latin.

But a few weeks ago I bought Felona e Sorona (Le Orme), and quickly climbed to the first place.

It's a masterpiece, very influenced by Genesis and ELP but absolutely Italian, one of the best albums I heard in my life.
