I think you're right. On the whole, I'm not too sold on "Baku." Too repetitive and self-derivative. But that may just be me. My son's best friend (15 yrs old and a major metal head) LOVES "Hungry Ghost." FWIW.

To cop a phrase from Yesspaz, "Ghost" freakin rawks. I've been caught playing air guitar or steering wheel drums to that one on more than one occasion.

Spaz copped that from the punk scene. MxPx has a song called "Punk Rawk Show" which of course lampoons the fake British accent American punk bands try to use.

MxPx, there's a band I haven't thought about in a while. Good one. I was listening to Gang of Four yesterday...does that count? (Not much ambient music from the Gang, I'm afraid, unless Avian wants to horrify his audience with "Anthrax.")

Try to find these suggestions!

A few suggestions:

Soundtrack to Ghost in the Shell - all but two tracks are progressive in what they use. The neat thing is that few can understand what the chorus sings because it's in ancient Japanese! This is an absolute MUST HAVE album. I'll be glad to send you snippets of songs if you're curious. It's hard to come by in the state. Had to order direct from a Japanese company.

Soundtrack to Akira - Not sure this is progressive but it's definitely unique. Some uptempo and mellow stuff arranged very unusually.

War of the Worlds - This is very pop-ish but it tells a theatre wide story and that for me qualifies it as prog. Made by Jeff Wayne, I think, it's the one that features 70s music stars such as Justin Hayward and is narrated by Richard Burton.

I also suggest checking out other music by Kenji Kawai, who did the Ghost in the Shell soundtrack, such as the Patlabor 2 (2002 version) soundtrack. Some very nice stuff here.
