Re: Why that avatar?

Well,

why this avatar.

I have several - and I change occasionally... I did the green beard to start with... seemed to fit with everything going on when I joined.

Then came the christmas I played Santa - real white beard and all...

Now I have a wonderful bluebonnet picture of my lovely wife and myself, taken by my daughter... my beard is still growing... probably need to update my pic again... but who knows... I kinda like this picture.

later, tater...

Regards from Texas,
Ted

Re: Why that avatar?

I change mine, but only occasionally. This current one just makes me laugh: "I am a bomb technician. If you see me running try to keep up."

I started with Focus' Moving Waves, since it looks like an ocean and I have always lived less than a mile from salt water (except college in Ohio). I've had my dog; Mona Lisa with a party hat; a scene from MXC (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MXC);and a graphic of a martial arts hand clasp. Other than the martial arts (5+ years of training), most of the rest involve my omnipresent, though sometimes eyebrow raising, sense of humor.

I finally get to say this...

Your beard is among the greatest ones I've ever seen! (Needless to say that I envy you for that. Why does my hair grow limit to a light moustache!)

Back to the topic:

My avatar is a character from one of the oldest piece of literature, Gilgamesh from the epic of Gilgamesh. I haven't actually read it but it certainly is in my books-to-read-next list... Here's a wikipedia link http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Epic_of_Gilgamesh

ps. The picture was found by randomly googling "gilgamesh"

Lellu,

Thank you! Nice complement! My beard grows... this is the first time I haven't shaved it off during the summer and it hasn't been as hot as I expected it to be. The growth maybe due to my higher protein, low carb diet (to help control my diabetes), or maybe it is just genetics - my father never had a beard or moustache - he didn't like it "curling in on itself and making him itch" - and none of my mother's brothers ever wore much facial hair... although, my brother had (and I think still does) have a wicked handle bar moustache - he waxes it and everything... me, I don't wear a moustache... my wife doesn't like kissing one!

Oh well, enough about a beard...

Just wanted to thank you!! And cool avatar that you have!!

Regards from Texas,
Ted

Re: Why that avatar?

Wanted to show my leanings to the Yes camp, and I'm huge fan of Roger Dean. This is a lesser known work.

Ted - I think you're just trying to get in with the ZZ Top crowd. Now they could use a professional Cowbell player.

Re: Why that avatar?

I chose the album cover of Eloy 'Planets' (Heavy Metal Records version) because i loved the album and i used to have it as a bedroom poster in my influential youth! I loved the album and it started me exploring progressive rock, moving away from the heavy metal influence of my teens. I have to admit that it was a mistake purchase at the time - I thought it was going to be a heavy metal album given the name of the record company!!

Re: Why that avatar?

In a lot of cases reading through this whole thread for the first time (of course context is lost from '05 if the author changed their avatar) a person will pick album art for their avatar, and mine fits that genre.

Premiata Forneria Marconi's Live in USA was my first prog record bought new when released on the Numero Uno label. It was the thing to do at that time of my life and I was living near Roma circa 1972-1975. The fact that the album was recorded in the US by an italian band holds even more meaning for me now, but at the time it was cool because it tied me back to my land of birth.

When I noticed PFM being played on AM, it grabbed me. Back in the day, Alta Loma 5 till 9 was a song that I knew was special but as a teenager I didn't fully grasp. Now to find people all around the world that hold this song as a favorite makes it all the more special.

PFM continues to perform in Italy and it is an ambition of mine to see them. Having Pagani and Premoli participate would be a bonus.

Re: Why that avatar?

At the beginning I wrote my username wrong (Tocatta) and like Avatar the (cover of Selling England..), because was my first LP progressive rock)!!
Later I repair my username as Toccata ( Braind Sallad.. of ELP) and an
Avatar (a black horse ahead ), because it was always an animal that I liked and as the progressive rock is! A loose animal in motion always ahead!

Thanks, KW.

Once a month would be the way to go, and it'd be a better product, for sure, and only one hour. However, there are two things.

First, it'd be up to Jim and VAX.

Second, it'd have to be sometime later for sure, since I don't have an ISP at home. I am a wi-fi hot-spot guy these days.

Who knows, maybe someday?
