Your 10 CDs of the Millennium?

Hello all,

Since 2000 we have had 15 wonderful years of progressive music so I was wondering, what is your top ten bands/CDs (either list will do) of the new Millennium?

I will post mine as soon as can figure out what that list would look like!

I can tell you that PF's Endless River is definitely NOT one of them...

Re: Your 10 CDs of the Millennium?

I'll be the first to stick my neck out. I will limit it to progressive rock, one cd per artist and only studio albums.

1. Porcupine Tree - Deadwing (tomorrow it could be In Absentia, next maybe FoaBP)
2. Steven Wilson - The Raven Who Refused to Sing (people on this station hate this album, but it resonates with me emotionally. It didn't hurt that the live show in support of this album was freakin' awesome)
3. Pain of Salvation - Remedy Lane (some people on this station do not think progressive metal is part of progressive rock. Well I do!)
4. Tool - Lateralus (See #3)
5. Premiata Forneria Marconi (PFM) - Stati Di Immaginazione (Seeing this played live at NEARfest only cemented it's place in the top 5)
6. Mar de Robles - Indigena (This Chilean band is my top Jazz/Fusion album)
7. Taal - Skymind (Great eclectic mix! Haven't heard from this band in a while)
8. Magic Pie - Circus of Life (Could replace it with the debut. I love the virtuosic playing and melodic songs)
9. Phideaux - Doomsday Afternoon (Can this General Hospital director craft a good tune or what?)
10. The Decemberists - The Crane Wife (Probably borderline prog, but I'm including it)

I maintain an Excel database of my cd collection to bring order to chaos. As part of this, I rate each one of my cds (about 9,000). I have rated 304 2000-2014 cds that I classify as Progressive rock at 9 or 10. This is my top 10 tonight, will probably be different on another night.

Re: Your 10 CDs of the Millennium?

Hello again,

TY to Karl for being the first, I kept mine to bands that were formed no later than 1999 and like Karl am keeping it to one CD per artist and only studio.

1. 2007 - Magenta - Seven (Although all the releases are great IMHO)
2. 2007 - The Flower Kings - Sum of No Evil (I have it all and this one stands out the most, plus the VW Bus idea is awesome!)
3. 2008 - Quidam -Alone Together (This CD only took one listen and I knew I was a fan of Quidam)
4. 2008 - Mindfields - One (I only know of this one release)
5. 2011 - Phideaux - Snowtorch (Yes he can Karl!)
6. 2009 - Osada Vida - Uninvited Dreams (The 2014 release The After Affect is 3 in my top ten 2014 list)
7. 2013 - Times Up - Snow Queen (Great thing is the new 2014 release is nothing like this one)
8. 2009 - Tangent - down and out in PARIS and LONDON (but that could change in an hour)
9. 2006 - Focus - Focus 9/New Skin (OK so this is an old band, but there rebirth in the new Millennium is just amazing)
10. 2004 - Riverside - Out Of Myself (this band had such a powerful sound IMHO)

Well that is my list as it stands right now, but like most of you it could change tomorrow but that is another day

Re: Your 10 CDs of the Millennium?

OK, one album per band makes sense:

1. IQ- Dark Matter 2004(I had to pick only one)
2. Pallas- The Dreams of Men 2005
3. Anima Mundi- The Way 2010
4. Morphelia- Waken the Nightmare 2009
5. Introitus- Elements- 2011(3 great albums to choose from)
6. Arena- Immortal 2000
7. Phideaux- Snowtorch 2011
8. Nordagust- In the Mist of Morning 2010(great one shot album)
9. Nexus- Metanoia 2001
10. Hostsonaten- Rime of the Ancient Mariner, Chapter One 2012

Many others worthy.

(And I don't hate The Raven. I'm just indifferent.)

Re: Your 10 CDs of the Millennium?

Unquestionably without a doubt my #1 pick since 2000 is...

Echolyn - Echolyn (2012)

This cd more than any other I have listened to is a CLASSIC!
Every aspect of this cd is phenomenal.
As far as #2 through #10 will require some thought.

Can't argue with that selection. Great album!
