Desolation
Biography from their official website
From left to right: Francis Grégoire (Keyboards), Gabriel Antoine Vallée (Vocals/Guitars), Philippe Pouliot (Drums), Dominic Tapin-Brousseau (Bass), Gabriel Cyr (Guitars) At first, the members of the band were Gabriel Cyr (guitars), Francis Grégoire (keyboards), Philippe Pouliot (drums) and Dominic Tapin-Brousseau (bass). Playing a couple of instrumental original songs as well as progressive song covers, the band members quickly became close to each others and shared the same vision for the project's future. It was clear to everyone that a singer would eventually complete the formation. After a couple auditions, Gabriel Antoine Vallée joined the band in 2012 to officially form Universe Effects. Two years of composition and hard work followed for them to finally record their first album In the Haze that Surrounds Us, presenting a progressive rock/metal music with a touch of epic. Influences : Dream Theater, Rush, Liquid Tension Experiment, Planet X, Freak Kitchen, Symphony X, Steven Wilson, Transatlantic, Spock’s Beard, Yes, Porcupine Tree, Andromeda, Ark, Hans Zimmer, John Williams and many others ... From Progarchives.com, the ultimate progressive rock music website UNIVERSE EFFECTS Progressive Metal • Canada Universe Effects Biography Founded in 2012, Quebec based act UNIVERSE EFFECTS perform an epic and theatrical style of progressive metal with influences pertaining to bands such as DREAM THEATER and RUSH but also incorporating certain aspects of groups such as Porcupine Tree into their overall sound. Beginning as an instrumental outfit consisting of Gabriel CYR on guitar, Francis GREGORY on keyboards, Philippe POULIOT on drums and Dominic TAPIN-BROUSSEAU on bass, the band's chemistry immediately gelled, and the desire for a vocalist eventually resulted after numerous auditions with the addition of Antoine Gabriel VALLEY into the fold, who also performs acoustic guitar. After two years of writing and practicing, the act recorded their first full length album entitled ''In The Haze That Surrounds Us'', which was released in February of 2015. Highly melodic yet intricate in nature, their music features strong interplay between guitars and keyboards while retaining heaviness with their tight rhythm section. Re: Desolation
Very good album. The only fault is the same all prog bands seem to fall to these days is the opening 'prelude' track. Adds nothing to the album. Unnecessary and a waste of effort. That said, Good job!

Re: Desolation
2019
3 videos by Gabriel Cyr 2 of a Gabriel Cyr that you don't expect ... and an alternative guitar solo version of a song taken from their latest album Desolation Travel Memories - Gabriel Cyr Gabriel Cyr : I am currently doing a Master Degree in Jazz Interpretation at Laval University. I composed this piece in the context of a creation project in which I explore different instruments less common in jazz. I have always appreciated the sound of the cello and I felt it was a good match for this melody. Musicians: Tomohisa Toriumi – Cello François Moisan - Electric Bass Olivier Bussières – Drums Gabriel Cyr - Jazz Guitar https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pe-DDpfMzPk Violin Sonata No.1 in G minor, IV. Presto / Jazz Guitar & Harpsichord Arrangement by Gabriel Cyr Composer : Johann Sebastian Bach Gabriel Cyr : I arranged this piece in the context of a creation project in which I explore different instruments less common in jazz. I was curious about the sound of a jazz guitar and a harpsichord playing together. I decided to harmonize and write an harpsichord part for this wonderful piece originally written for solo violin by Bach. I hope you can appreciate the sound of this uncommon duo. Harpsichord: Marc Roussel Guitar: Gabriel Cyr https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TlcJjSAqYKk Fading Light - Guitar Solo + Epic Final Gabriel Cyr : Fading Light is a composition from my band Universe Effects latest album Desolation. I'm very proud of this guitar solo and I hope you can appreciate it! It is slightly different from the album version but still very close. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qc5b_WCl2rU GOOD LISTENING Last edited by nicola : 01-20-2020 at 05:53 PM. |
