Introductions...

Yay... Aural Moon - another warm cavern of sound & friendliness added to my navmap!
My names Zoz or Zozzy (real name is just too boring
I am a singer/songwriter/visual artist who's newest work is as the singer for Thonk

www.thonk.ch

My main site is Z-Factor and you can see some 'progressive' art there.. lots of stuff influenced by Dean, Matthews & Wilkinson as well my attempts at a unique original style.
There's also free tracks to download... only one vocal track at the moment "Roll Back the Sky" in The Love Frequency section which is mostly instrumental prog/electronica... i'll be adding much more in the next few days.
If you click on The ZoZ icon there you can read what music I like etc... probably too long to copy into here...though I have the feeling that long posts won''t be a problem on this board

ok... gotta catch up on the threads & topics...
later

Hi & welcome

Just went on both sites. Haven't had time to listen to any music (will later today when I need to chill) but went briefly through your art. Great stuff! I highly recommend that my fellow AM'ers go take a look.

Another SciFi fan, eh? Aren't we the typical prog. bunch! I noticed that you mentioned Dan Simmons. Just a few days ago I recommended his Hyperion series to a Podakayne on our shoutbox. Great books.

thanks guys....
I just finished uploading a bunch of old vocal stuff from various projects before I learnt to sing properly
There's no pure prog but prog elements in most tracks.
If anyone is good at crushingly honest critique then I'd be glad to get a personal message
Now I have to find somewhere that does a decent looking or customizable free guestbook.

hi zozzy-
it does seem there's an art/ music connection.
might make an interesting thread
(or it's been done to death)

before turning to music production, i studied
w/ dc comics senior editor joe kubert,
(sgt. rock, hawkman,enemy ace ect.)
apprenticed w/ michael t. gilbert, artist
of moorcock's "elric" graphic novels.

i also owned the west coast's largest
comics shop (comics plus, eugene) in the 80's.

i'll check out your art/tunes. i don't hit prog
directly on the head either, basically because
i only have production/keys and a guitarist to work with.

Yes... i've been to Kubert's website a few times... I dabble also...
but i'm just not disciplined enough.
I'm basically an X-Men fan (for 24 years now) but buy a lot of scifi stuff like The Authority or the Universe X saga.
Comics as an art-form has so many parallels to prog that it would be worth an essay.
Actually I like your life... if Thonk thunks then I'd like to swap places Except you'd have to own a comic shop again
In St Gallen the comics shop also has a corner for eclectic & ethnic music as well as alternative books... its got prog-spirit!

hey!

i usually just give a supportive nod,
but you're seriously good!

what's your technique on "eve..."
"wired"?

it looks like photoshop in places,
air brush in others.

the tlf music's very good .
i'd be interested in hearing your
opinions of my tunes-
try my solo "blade runnerish"piece
"gridspace" and our latest
"bleeding hearts and artists".

it'd be cool to get a subscene going here.

Hi Kirk... exquisite evocations you have there...

my visual art is mostly a photoshop technique I developed called Smoke n Mirrors... which uses random chaos clouds continually overlapped in such a way that it becomes like a kind of marbled oil or cork pattern.
After a while any imaginative person begins to pull intricately detailed & shaded images from the chaos.... it then only takes very basic photoshop know-how to define, extract & enhance what is there.
Sometimes I have these dreams that are so fantastically vivid and complex... whole storylines appear, visual scenes of a surreal intensity that Dali would die for if he were not already dead. I hear sounds & music that surpass anything I am capable of in my waking hours.. I think most people know such dreams...
Where does it all come from? This fantastic detail, the complexity & scope of our dream epics.... the sheer terror af a really great nightmare that puts any horror or ghost flick to shame...
What is that? Does that come from ourselves? Something external? God? Some subconscious lake of racial memory?

I've always been trying to tap into that artistic level... (i'm nowhere near yet) That's my muse...its what keeps me trying to improve and progress.

Some of my TLF stuff is ok... Most of the vocal stuff on-site is terrible... but it's me... it's part of my journey... no secrets...
Its so easy to create an online presence that is something you are not... that's why I risk people hearing those tracks and dismissing me as a vocalist of little talent.

I'll give you my rections on your tracks a little later.... got to work today...(part time cinema projectionist)

re: a subscene... definitely would be interesting to get a few small online collaborations going... I like the Yestalk site band project.

kirk buddy, fancy meeting you here!

Hello again to everyone. I'm not new (my avatar is), but I've been gone for a while. Had trouble accessing the forums after the site change a while back and fell out of the habit of checking in. No problem now though, and I'm back to re-introduce myself.

Since I've been gone, I've discovered places to upload music I've recorded so that at long last I can share it with more than just family and friends. It's free, and you can download it. I hope you all will visit and have a listen!

My musical influences range from Eno to Zappa, Kit Watkins to Don Ellis, classic progressive, Canterbury, ECM, modern composers, etc.

Each of the sites below covers different though overlapping aspects of stuff I recorded between 1985 and 1996, solo and collaborative projects ranging from lo-fi avant-garde to more polished electronic compositions. Enjoy!

Nice to see you here kirk... kirk's a good man to have around! And he makes great music as well.

s.b. thanks for the good words.
be sure and check out zozzy's art
gallery, he's very adept at manipulating photoshop.

i noticed a few other friends on the members list
(i've been planting moles for a hostile takeoverhaha)

earl grey's on the list, my "real world" mate dave kenz..
a mate or 2 from my days of dominating mp3.com.au...
(listen to me, it was 6 months ago, "scirocco" made top 10 "world" last week).

maybe we'll have to drive mgmt crazy for
an "up an coming" spot, eh?

Indeed, very nice! I'm going back for more.

Listening to The Love Frequency right now. I actually liked Roll Back the Sky quite a bit, I think it's my favorite. Yes, I think I'll have to download that one.
