RE: Theming Thursday, what is an "Epic?"

With epics being the theme, I 've seen a lot of songs RQed that were only 10 minutes or so, and I thought, "That's not epic." So, totally arbitrary I'm sure, but where do YOU draw the line between an epic and a regular song?

I say anything under 8:00 is short. I consider 8:00 to about 14:59 midlength. I wouldn't consider something epic until it crosses the 15:00 mark. Maybe it's something to do with a quarter-hour. Maybe that's about the minimum you can get away with and call it a side-length piece. Anyway, 15:00 is my minimum length for an epic.

The theme was not epics.

Jeezus H. Tap-dancin' Christ...I first thought that I must have completely missed the point of the the theme...When I saw "Epicurean delights", I thought of food again...I remembered food was the theme last week, but I thought WTF?...let's try it again...guess, I missed the italics... time for new peepers...

Well, I didn't want EPICs to be the theme. Simple pleasures comes to mind with today's theme.

My gut (never quite full) was the simple pleasure zone where I ended up...Suppose I just enjoy the feed bag a wee bit too much...

Well, then why put EPIC in all caps? Why not say "Simple Pleasures?" I know what epicureanism is, and that means more than food, but what did you expect when you put EPIC in caps? It's been epics all day!

Epic was not in all caps.

Re: Theming Thursday, what is an "Epic?"

Every week I put up a theme and I've to tried make it so that it doesn't pigeonhole requests to simple word searched of the library. It seems that this approach is unappreciated; therefore, next week's theme will be ... uh... BLUE! Yeah, blue, that's it. Start searching the library now for songs with the word blue and only blue; no shades of or similar hues -- only blue. In fact, I'll just write a script to find blue songs, so that you won't have to.

Re: Theming Thursday, what is an "Epic?"

Well obviously a broad, interpretive topic is preferred. I never said I wanted one word. And both "Epicurean delights" and "simple pleasures" fits that bill.

And it may not have been all caps, but it was underlined or italicized or something that emphasized "epic." I'm not the only one who thought that's what you were going for; it was epics all day.

That's very clever. While I got your meaning, I can understand why people were confused.

Stressing the word "theme" is probably not a bad idea because the easy thing to do is use the literal search function as pointed out in your BLUE rant (which was pretty funny).

When Moses does this in his show and because he follows variations on a topic of is choosing, it puts a constraint of english only based selections typically, while the more generic use of the theme concept as done in Theming Thursday is more broadly based and our non american friends can play along too. It's not a criticism but rather an observation (about the fusion reactor).

Actually, blue is a fine theme. People can request things that are blue, like sky, or ocean, or it could be the emotion - sadness. It's all about creativity.
