Re: Steely Dan

I am currently of the opinion that Steely Dan does not belong on the Moon, but that is subject to change. I do own every Steely Dan album, as I like them a lot.

I'm totally OK with a Steely Dan show, of course.

That's cool. I know you don't like to exclude certain tunes, but I personally wouldn't miss "Ricky Don't Loose That Number" or "Dirty Work".
I'd hate to have someone who is not too familiar with SD to go "Oh that band..right"
I mean there are so many SD songs that have such a cool groove:ie "Black Cow", "Home At last", "Royal Scam"

Even Gaucho?

I just hope we have the opportunity to be a going concern so that I can play more shows. As much of a grind it is sometimes, there's no shortage of ideas and it remains much fun.

Now to get to bed so I can at least have 5 hrs sleep before I spend most of Saturday cleaning the house so that 40 people can hide for my wife's 50th birthday surprise.....

Re: Steely Dan

Steely Dan for me is awesome. But when you have to 'classify' it, I can't put it into prog. But I love the Dan.

Now, that said, Fagan & Becker, the core of SD are inspirations to prog musicians everywhere. As well as prog listeners. A special show from the Rickmeister would be a very fitting tribute. IMHO.

Just don't ask Katy. We all know she's a liar.

Re: Steely Dan

Thanks Poda... never knew you liked The Dan!.. They are one of my all time fave bands... probably third to King Crimson and VDGG. their best track I think is Your Gold Teeth II from Katy Lied... smoothest drumming I have ever heard.

As far as the Dan on the Moon?... well I always considered Supertramp (whom I love) to be in the same vein as the Dan... not really catagorizable ( is that a word?)...but they are here... I also don't consider Rush to be prog.. They are ROCK... freakin MULLET ROCK at that!... and they are here much to my endless chagrin..

As far as THE DAN goes... they are far closer to prog than many bands here but I personally don't think they belong on the Moon... what makes them GREAT is that they can NOT be trapped in any genre... I think they are the greatest band of all time for this reason.. I know teenagers, older people, blacks, whites, hispanics, women , men... everyone likes The Dan... it's just plain happy music with a message... we need more of this on the airwaves in these days of depressingly meaningless socially polarizing homogeneous musical drivel.

Well that is a very silly statement (the mullet part only), and pretty much off-base, eh? But we still love you. Want a mullet?

If women and men like Steely Dan, I guess that covers it! (Then we we don't have to include infants, American Indians, and the Mormon Tabernacle Choir!)
