Over 20 minutes song

Some of Moonies say "most of over 20 minutes songs are boring",
but I suggest they might need more effort to listen to the long-playin' songs.
There're a lot of great songs for over 20 minutes I think...
e.g. Yes' songs from "Tales from topographic oceans", Sebastian Hardie's "Windchase",
Citizen Cain's "Somewhere but yesterday", Grateful Dead's "Dark star",
Allman's Brothers Band's "Mountain Jam", etc. etc...

I for one have never had any problem with long(over 20min.) songs. They are an important part of what makes up the uniqueness of the Moon.

Rams,

And an important part of what makes up the uniqueness of Progressive music too!

I read the Neal Morse new CD thread... it said "most of the songs are 5 minutes" but don't worry, there was the everpresent 30 min prog number.
I liked that!

PROG ON MOONIES!!

Ted

Re: Over 20 minutes song

I would suggest that either the listener complaining is selfishly waiting for their own request to come up or are just trying to find a way to complain about that particular artist.

Either way, it's just not cricket. Perhaps the Rolling Stones said it best: "You can't always get what you want. But if you try real hard, you get what you need." Try to find the positive in everything you listen to. It will make the experience better for all.

But, that's just my NSHO.

OHD,

Thank you for that positive and upbeat look at the issue. You make great points - and I appreciate it.

Often we only see (hear) what we want to see (hear) - causing us to have warped vision.

And sometimes it is best to keep one's mouth shut - rather than risk putting both feet in!

cliche's away. my 2 cents - and change to spare...

Re: Over 20 minutes song

20 or more minutes epics have been part of prog history since the beginning...so why we should not request them?

Re: Over 20 minutes song

Some Moonies will remember that day I requested the more than 21 minute song "Space is the place" from SUN RA. It was the full 21 minutes great fun in the shoutbox. One warning : Make sure you have a good reason to request it again !!!

Re: Over 20 minutes song

I remember that Erik. I think I had your back!

Um, complaining about a long song on a prog station? Isn't that like complaining your dish has noodles on it at an Italian restaurant? Or complaining that you smell like crap if you are study bats?

The only thing even remotely legitimate here, in my mind, is if there's someone who requests five long songs a day. That'd be abusing the idea of a group station. I request a lot, but usually only one "epic" every so often.

Whoever it was: I dedicate to you the entire King Black Acid album, "King Black Acid Loves a Long Song." :P

Judging by the comments made up to now , these "moonies", the short song ones, died along with the ones who find the moon noisy.

Re: Over 20 minutes song

I seem to recall this discourse. If I'm right, folks were complaining about long waits for their own request. I can understand that, but I can't imagine AM, or prog itself, without long songs. It's one of its hallmarks. Limited to short songs, AM would be like, well, all those radio stations that refused to play long songs, but were crazy enough to play the four-minute cut of Thick as a Brick. I hated that! Of course, on the other hand, I like to hear variety. And I like to hear new stuff. And I wish I didn't have to spend time listening to music I have become bored with. And I wish...oh wait, we're talking about long songs, not long-winded diatribes. Oh right, speaking of diatribes, I was once on a train traveling through Germany, and there was this...

I LIVE for the epics !!! How many times have you listened to a ten minute song and said "they should have made that longer"?

Yea, how many times have you listened to an epic and thought, "Will this thing ever end? They should have edited this thing down." And no, "Echoes" isn't one of them, although there are a few GYBE! songs that would count - a FEW.

Now THAT would be a GREAT thread - what songs should be longer?

(and anyone who say PF "Echoes" will be banned from the station
