COTM - #56 - Dixie Dregs

Greetings Moon Dwellers:

This week we are taking a look at the Fusion/Progressive Rock group Dixie Dregs. The group was founded by Guitarist Steve Morse (formerly of Kansas and later joining Deep Purple). He brought together Rod Morgenstein on percussion, Andy West on bass, Allen Sloan on violin, and Steve Davidowski on keyboards.

Dixie Dregs was started in 1975 and lasted up until 1982. Although, they did reunite for a while in 1989 for one album. To describe them, an Instrumental Kansas is a apt way. I sort of liked "a fun country-style pickin' fusion.'

I'll be playing their 1st three albums - the rare, hard to fine self produced The Great Spectacular, Freefall and What If. There are several songs on The Great Spectacular that were redone and included on the other two albums. I'll skip the repeats the 2nd time around.

I hope you can join me. Get yourself a bucket of fried chicken, kick back with a bud and get down with some southern fusion.

See you on the radio.

dale
