New Album from Mars Volta
Latest News - Music News
Tuesday, 15 August 2006

The Mars Volta have started their North American tour in support of Red Hot Chili Peppers. According to sources Mars Volta are also sharing RHC's guitarist John Fruisciante who also features on the up and coming third album Amputechture.

MArs Volta's Omar Rodriguez-Lopez is quoted for saying: "I've never thought of myself as a guitar player," explains Rodriguez-Lopez. "I don't like the guitar. I always felt like I got shafted and stuck with the instrument."
"The band will always have a particular sound because I'm writing the music and Cedric's vocals are very distinct, but the more that we can do to steer ourselves toward new land, that's the main objective,"

About the new album due out on September 19 th Rodriguez has said  "I would hate to have this band and to put all my energy into it and at the end of the day have us be known as 'the jam band' or 'the long song' band," he says. "There are no thirty-minute songs on this one."

Last Mondayss almost two-hour show was a chance to showcase some new material from the soon-to-be-released "Amputechture"

A set list pulled from the more than 128,000 fans on myspace.com included "Day of The Baphomets," "Vermicide," "Cygnus," "The Widow," "Frances The Mute," "Asilos Magdalena," "Viscera Eyes" and "Roulette Dares The Haunt of" and plenty of comments such as "The catalyst show kicked my ***. Thank you so much for that."

IT BITES to Reform, Record and Tour
Latest News - Music News
Monday, 14 August 2006

IT BITES are reuniting to record a new album and go on tour. The original line-up of John Beck on keyboards, drummer Bob Dalton, and bass player Dick Nolan, is to be completed by the addition of John Mitchell (Arena, Kino). Original singer and guitarist Francis Dunnery is unfortunately unable to commit to the reunion.

With his personal life and career now largely based in the USA, recording and writing schedules were impossible to co-ordinate. Thus the remaining band members turned to John Mitchell, who John Beck and Bob have been working together with over the past few years in the band Kino.

John Mitchell has a solid and impressive musical CV, having been lead guitarist in rock outfit Arena for 10 years, as well as playing and recording with John Wetton. At a number of Kino gigs, the band have played the It Bites' classics ‘Plastic Dreamer’ and ‘Kiss Like Judas’ to a rapturous audience reception, so it seemed a perfect fit to propose Mitchell as successor.

The band members have already started writing and will start recording later this year.
There will be some live shows prior to the release of the album, and a full tour to accompany its 2007 release.

Threshold back in studio to record new album

August 2006

Threshold are now back at Thin Ice Studios in Surrey, England to start recording their new studio album. The album is expected to be complete by the beginning of November.
In a recent post on the band's forum, keyboard player Richard West commented: "The writing's been going really well. We've been modernising the way we approach certain aspects of our writing, but we've still got the same core Threshold values. We're really looking forward to getting everything produced and finished, hopefully it'll be our best album yet, with one or two surprises for you..."

The album is scheduled for release early in 2007, with a tour planned for next spring followed by festival shows.

Threshold keyboard player Richard West has signed an artist deal with Korg UK that will see him using two Korg keyboards for the band's future live shows as well as in the studio.

Richard West commented "I've been using Korg keyboards ever since our first European tour in 1994. I started with an O1W and later upgraded to the Trinity and Triton. Now I have a Triton Extreme and an MS2000B, giving me a very powerful stage setup and a wonderful array of sonic possibilities".

New Iona album primo September

 Press release from Iona

The main news we have is that, after a bit of a delay, the brand new Iona studio album 'The Circling Hour' is currently being manufactured and we are expecting finished copies to arrive at the beginning of September. The band are unanimous in their feeling that this is definately one of the best Iona albums to date.

The album contains a full 65 minutes of new Iona music with a seamless blend of songs and instrumental sections, with all the band members excelling themselves in their performances. The album was mixed in Los Angeles by John Kellogg (who has worked on 5.1 surround sound mixes for Chicago, Foreigner, Deep Purple, ELP, The Black Crowes and many more) - with Dave and Troy overseeing the latter stages of the process. John has brought a new clarity and directness to the Iona sound, whilst retaining the huge dynamic range the band are known for.

There are some truly emotive and breathtaking moments, not least the guest appearance, right at the end of the album, by Mostly Autumn singer Heather Findlay.

The running order is as follows;

1.Empyrean Dawn
2.Children of Time
3.Strength
4.Wind off the Lake
5.Factory of Magnificent Souls
6.Skymaps
7.No Fear in Love
8.Wind, Water and Fire
9.Fragment (of a fiery sun)
