Xinema - new CD
Latest News - Music News
Wednesday, 16 August 2006

Swedish band XINEMA just released their new CD, four years after their nice debut Different Ways.

The new full leghth cd ”Basic communication”, is the first genuine Xinema album with exclusively new material. Presenting an album of great variety and dynamics, Xinema’s aim as usual, is to deliver a good set of relevant and consistent songs.

The band's motto is: "-A good song is always a good song, regardless of genre.” Speaking of which, you’ll definitly find Xinema in the rock department, be that with an ”artful” or sometimes progressive twist. The new cd comes across as more powerful, articulated and with a bit more attitude than its predecessor ”Different ways”. This is a band that will spare no effort in the process of maintaining their solid musical integrity, and has always done things their own way.

The band Xinema was formed in Sweden 1999 by three friends:

Mikael Askemur (Main vocals, guitar, bass and keyboards), Sven Larsson (Guitar, backing vocals) and Jonas Thurén (Drums, vocals, backing vocals).

One thing led to another and in august of 2002, the band’s debut, the full length CD Different Ways, was released by Unicorn Records. In essence, with a few exceptions it’s a compilation of the older songs from the Madrigal era. Around 2001 though, when Different Ways was completed, another band called Madrigal had emerged on the web. Since the band at that time was newly reformed, a name change was inevitable, and they decided to go for Xinema.

Porcupine Tree change label
Latest News - Music News
Tuesday, 15 August 2006

Roadrunner Records issued the following press release today:

Roadrunner Records is delighted to welcome epic rockers PORCUPINE TREE to our family.

Porcupine Tree is unquestionably one of the most difficult-to-categorise and innovative bands out there. The music is breathtaking, ranging from psychedelic trip-hop to progressive metal, and a compendium of other sounds in between.

Evolving from one man’s self-indulgent creative outlet back in 1992, Porcupine Tree has grown into a well respected major-label-signed four-piece who have released several albums. Their most recent, 2005’s ‘Deadwing’, served to further skyrocket the band's renown and they are currently hard at work on a brand new record - set for release on Roadrunner (excluding North America and Japan) in early 2007.

“Porcupine Tree are extremely happy about our new partnership with Roadrunner Records for our forthcoming album,” comments Steven Wilson. “Roadrunner has established itself as one of the world’s premier independent labels for rock music, and we couldn't be more enthusiastic about working with them to expand our audience and elevate Porcupine Tree to the next level.”

Porcupine Tree's next album will be issued by Atlantic Records in North America, and WHD in Japan.

Three Porcupine Tree shows are confirmed for Japan in November, all with ProjeKct 6 (Robert Fripp + Adrian Belew) as opening act:

27th - Diamond Hall, Nagoya
28th - Zepp, Osaka
29th - Hitomi Memorial Hall, Tokyo

Wetton/Downes Icon new live album “Never In A Million Years”
Latest News - Music News
Tuesday, 15 August 2006

2005 the two musicians, founding members of the supergroup ASIA, reunited after a 12 years hiatus and created a magnificent new album “Icon” as a fruit of their rejuvenated partnership. The two musicians performed a tour in the spring 2006 and recorded a few shows which are now released on this live album which serves as an introduction to their forthcoming studio album “Rubicon” scheduled for release on November 10th 2006.

“During the tour, we played many of the songs that we had written for ASIA in the 1980s, and lots that we hadn't” says Wetton, “New music with old. Familiar brushes on a new canvas. Maybe that's what was needed - a change of perspective for this project. New colours. Some of our materials just needed to be dusted off and exposed to the light - others required a gently flattering facelift”.

Joining the two on the live recordings are John Mitchell (guitars) and Steve Christey (drums).

Geoffrey Downes adds: “Of particular interest on this album: our first ever recording of "We Move As One" which we wrote for Abba's Agnetha Fältkstog. Also, an extended version of "Open Your Eyes" with a seriously sparkling solo by John M. Those of you who were there will remember Lol's magical lights which added suspense and dynamism to the long climactic coda. "The Smile has Left Your Eyes" was recorded at a Roland Virtual Icon show in Germany. You may notice that Hugh McDowell's cello is there - even though he wasn't!”.

In the meanwhile the recording of the brand new studio album is almost finished. The central theme of the album is the concept of “Crossing the Rubicon”. Reports from the studio suggest that John's voice has NEVER sounded better and that the compositions are as strong as anything from Wetton and Downes.  This promises to be a sensational follow up to Icon which shall see the light of day in on November 10th 2006. More news will be unleashed as soon as available.

Tracklisting of “Never In A Million Years” includes the following songs:
Pane Bruno; The Heat Goes On; Only Time Will Tell; Voice Of America; I Lay Down; Days Like These; Bolero; Meet Me At Midnight; Never In A Million Years; We Move As One; Paradox / Let Me Go; Don’t Cry; Open Your Eyes; The Smile Has Left Your Eyes
