Bah. The 70s, as a state of mind, started in the middle part of 67 and ended sometime in mid 1982

Trust me. I lived through it.

somewhere between the Beatles white & roxy music

there lies a stagering roger.lee trying desperately to make it back to the future...so many ch...ch...ch...changes would be made. 70's were fine it's the 80's that sucked....

the 80s weren't up to par with the 70s, but you had Journey, King Crimson, Pink Floyd, Yes, Boston, Tom Petty, Genesis, some really good one-hit-wonder-songs, and the rise of the NBA thanks to Magic Johnson and Larry Bird. What else could be wrong with the 80s? Oh wait, everything else.

I believe Roger was referring to the mighty ABC, whereas Yesspaz was referring to the Beatles. Roger's *shudder* was a very appropriate response to ABC...

Pop culture is typically shallow in any decade. What the 80's seemed to lack was any quantity of interest in artistic music. Doesn't mean none came out, but the number of people listening to it was smaller than in the 70's. The 70's had just as much trite trash, but the Yes, Genesis, ELP, Pink FLoyd sub-culture was fairly large for awhile.

The 90's aren't much better, but the big difference is the internet. It's easier to find good music (however an individual defines "good"), and e-commerce has given independent artists and labels a viable business model.

And Spaz, c'mon - 80's Genesis sucks compared to 70's Genesis. 80's Yes sucks compared to 70's Yes. 80's Floyd sucks compared to 70's Floyd. 80's Crimson - OK, that's a wash. Tom Petty? I like Tom Petty, but he's basic rock - not the same artistic level. And anything Boston did after the first album (1976) was redundant.

So what's my point? I have no idea...
