The Fusion Reactor #141 - The Gifts of the Spirit

It seemed like the only logical followup. This show focuses on the gifts of the Spirit listed in 1 Corinthians 12:8-10 - "To one is given through the Spirit the utterance of wisdom, and to another the utterance of knowledge according to the same Spirit, to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit, to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another the ability to distinguish between spirits, to another various kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues."

There are other lists elsewhere, and they overlap in many places, but for this show I'll be focusing on the above list. Perhaps in a future show I'll get some of the others.

So, given that, here's this week's playlist:

Visual Cliff - Wisdom's Call (5:33)
Iona - Wisdom (4:58)
Job 28:18 - " No mention shall be made of coral or of crystal; the price of wisdom is above pearls."

Patrik Skantze - Craving For Knowledge (4:31)
Suntower - Inner Knowledge (4:07)
1 Samuel 2:3 -" Talk no more so very proudly, let not arrogance come from your mouth; for the LORD is a God of knowledge, and by him actions are weighed."

King's X - Faith Hope Love (9:22)
Birdsongs Of The Mesozoic - A Little More Faith In Jesus (5:36)
Isaiah 26:2 - "Open the gates, that the righteous nation that keeps faith may enter in."

John McLaughlin - Healing Hands (7:36)
Brand X - Healing Dream (3:54)
Malachi 4:2 - "But for you who fear my name, the sun of righteousness shall rise with healing in its wings. You shall go out leaping like calves from the stall."

Kansas - Miracles Out Of Nowhere (6:29)
Emerson, Lake & Powell - The Miracle (7:02)
Hebrews 2:4 - "while God also bore witness by signs and wonders and various miracles and by gifts of the Holy Spirit distributed according to his will."

Cairo - The Prophecy (10:18)
Pagan's Mind - The Prophecy Of Pleiades (9:53)
2 Peter 1:21 - "For no prophecy was ever produced by the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit."

Atomic Opera - Reiah Discerns The Times (2:18)
Divine In Sight - Sorrow & Promise: VIII. Soul of Mine (2:43)
Hebrews 5:14 - "But solid food is for the mature, for those who have their powers of discernment trained by constant practice to distinguish good from evil."

Schleigho - Tongues Of the Homogenized (9:01)
King Crimson - Larks' Tongues In Aspic, Part 4 (live) (10:25)
Acts 2:4 - "And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit gave them utterance."

Garage a Trois - Interpretive Ape Dance (3:02)
Isildurs Bane - The Interpreter (11:52)
1 Corinthians 14:27 - "If any speak in a tongue, let there be only two or at most three, and each in turn, and let someone interpret."

Re: The Fusion Reactor #141 - The Gifts of the Spirit

Moses, the time and effort you put into crafting your shows is remarkable and I appreciate it greatly. However, for me this is too much religion. You might say it's your show and you can express yourself as you see fit..fair enough. But as I'm sure you want to reach your listeners, I owe it to you to tell you that this kind of religious outreach on a public non religious radio station is a turn off for me.

I am sure there are others, however, who are bigger than me and will see beyond the obvious and simply enjoy the music. I hope so.

Respectfully,
mossy

Re: The Fusion Reactor #141 - The Gifts of the Spirit

Mossy,

Thank you for sharing your opinion . In looking over the playlist, I find only one or two songs that appear 'overtly' religious... now the theme obviously is 'overtly' religious. But as you mentioned at the end of your post, maybe others can just listen to the music. I appreciate Moses seeking to integrate his faith with his enjoyment of music. I think, from what I remember, that this is the most overt Moses has been with his faith, but I could be wrong. I happen to appreciate what Moses is doing, but I agree everyone else might not. But as often is the case, people 'vote' with their feet (meaning if they don't like it - they will listen to something else). It would be interesting to see if the "attendance" or "# of listeners" is different before, durning and after Moses' shows.

Moses,

Thank you for expressing your faith in this way. I appreciate your integration of your faith and your love for music. I have a hard time - sometimes - integrating the two.

Regards to both of you,

Ted

Re: The Fusion Reactor #141 - The Gifts of the Spirit

I posted something and it didn't take..here it goes again

I am not bothered in the least by this. Perhaps it's because I have to walk the fine line every day in my family (yes I am the non-believer).

Let's find a happy medium (and I don't mean a pleasant palm-reader). Maybe Moses, you could post the set list only with a link to the notes (as Prog Shores does). If I remember correctly, the Prog Positivity show airs before this one. Maybe a link there? But if you think you do not need to subjugate your opinions, I understand.

I've met moses a couple of times and he even was kind enough to put me up for an evening. He wears his religion proudly, but I did not feel offended.

This may be apples and oranges, but I find it equivalent to someone overtly expressing their fanatacism towards a sports team.

Ultimately this is not my issue, but the one thing I do not want to see is this deteriorate into a hot-headed discussion on the merits of religion. Tiresome and unneccessary. Mossy and Ted's comments are well-meaning and constructive.

Re: The Fusion Reactor #141 - The Gifts of the Spirit

Thanks to everyone for your replies.

If you are around to listen to the show (I understand that schedules don't always permit it - hey I don't always get to listen to it!), you'll hear that on the air I don't say much of anything regarding the "overt religious" stuff. I pretty much just introduce the theme, the songs, the artists, and move on. I believe this show has me talking for less than 4 minutes total. I don't read the scriptures I put in the post on the air, they're just here for further edification if you're interested.

However, I like Rick's suggestion. Next time I'm doing a show with this type of theme, I'll merely post the playlist here and link to the other stuff on my blog. Most likely I'll be back to something more secular next week.

Sorry if I ruffled feathers, that was not my intent. I'm taking this class through my church, and my excitement kind of spilled over into the show.

Now I'm off to work, so I won't be able to get your replies until Sunday at the earliest. Don't think I'm ignoring you, there just isn't much of an internet connection in the woods.

Oh great, now I'm gonna be late because I just HAD to reply!

My job is now in the woods. Obviously, I'm not a computer tech anymore. I'm headed in there real soon, and I'll be there until Friday night(get my 40 hour work week out of the way in three days). THEN I get to catch up with the Scouts until Sunday.

Yeah I didn't get angry, because one of the fruits of the Spirit is... oh wait, never mind.

Rick and Moses - thank you both... and Mossy - thank you too.... it helps us to be aware of how we come across to others...

I appreciate the comments and the spirit in which they were typed/shared.

Regards,
Ted
