Philadelphia area concerts

Anyone know of any good concerts coming up in Philly? I'm seeing WEEN in November at the Tower Theater, and possibly !!! in October. Of Montreal is coming to town soon as well, and although I don't listen to them much, I may goto their show anyhoo. All these are good bands, but I'd like to know about some proggier stuff I can see. Any suggestions?

Where do you reside Alex?

Check out the WorldCafeLive site... I see Robert Fripp and The League of Crafty Guitarists there in Nov. as well as California Guitar Trio.

The NJ Prog House is a 2 hour ride outside of Philly but there are 2 good shows coming up this fall: Advent Saturday Oct. 20 and IZZ/Anton Roolaart Saturday Nov. 17.

ROSfest and NEARfest are in the spring. ROSfest in Phoenixville, PA last weekend of April 2008 and NEARfest in Bethlehem, PA 20-22 June 2008.

The Moody Blues are playing the Poland Spring Arena At The Ritacco Center in Toms River, NJ (not really as this is only 8 miles from my home but I think Toms River is the biggest nearby city so they go with it) on the 27th of Oct.

Blackmore's Night, not really prog but a good show, is at the Strand Theater in Lakewood, NJ (exactly 4 miles from my front door). A nice theater for a gig.

If I get any more gig info, I'll let you know. There must be something coming up in Atlantic City... I'll have to look.

Re: Philadelphia area concerts

Sometimes the TLA has a good show. You could also try the Pollstar site, but that's more mainstream. However, you can filter by area, band, or venue.

I didn't mention the TLA (Thater of the Living Arts) -- a venue I have been to QUITE often -- because there's nothing proggish scheduled there for the rest of this year. I've seen acts from Procol Harum to Marillion there.

I like to hang out at the Irish bar next to the TLA until show time.

There's also the Electric Factory and Trocadero in Philly which have in the past held prog gigs. Nothing showing in the immediate future.

On the NJ side, there is also the Starland Ballroom.

The Berends Bros. (Mastermind) are always playing some bar gig in the area. If loud is Alex's thing, I can refer him to one of their gigs -- ear plugs are recommended as they do play loud in small areas.

I'm waiting for Alex gives me a better idea of his location.

the whole area around the TLA is great to hang out, true....

Forgot about the Starland - a lot of acts go there.

The Berends are doing Cream and other blues covers when they play.

Re: Philadelphia area concerts

Thanks a bunch, guys! Definitely lots of stuff I'll look further into, and as Rick said, South Street is a great place to hang, particularly near the TLA and Penn's Landing.

I live in a suburb about 20 minutes out of Philly. I don't mind driving a few hours for a good show, though, so Jersey stuff and mid-Pennsylvania shows are acceptable.

And I believe Zappa Plays Zappa is coming up in Atlantic City. I'd love to see them, since I missed em at the TLA this summer.

Re: Philadelphia area concerts

Radio Massacre International will be playing in Philly on Nov 17th.

www.thegatherings.org

I suggest getting tix in advance for this show..

They are also playing @ the Orion in Baltimore on Nov 18th, which will be a full-on spacerock show.

I will be at both gigs (and so will my Viper)
