Re: Worst Prog Drummer
Worst Prog rock drummer has to go to Vangelis... though he claims to be a master of all sorts of instruments and credits himself for playing them on his albums, drumming is not one of his fortes. There is a funny story about when he tried out for YES. Chris Squire and Alan white sat there with their jaws on the floor and watched while Vangelis said he could play each of their parts if need be. "He was banging and crashing about like a damn ape"... said Squire, they quickly dismissed him with an... "It's all Greek to me" comment.

The only two people I've known to do it well is Adrian Belew and Carl Groves (if there are more, please tell me). Even Matthew Parmenter, as much as I love his work, is guilty of dabbling in the drumming. A song is enhanced or destroyed greatly by the drumming. We just got a drum kit for our 11 year old. Figure in a week he'd be past Nick Mason (cheap shot!) Best name in drums still goes to Finch's Beer Klaas. |
