Rickter Scale - Show 162 - "Not On The Moon But Still Pretty Damn Good"
airing Sunday, January 6 from 8-11 PM EST and Monday, January 7 from 1-4 PM EST
This week we'll hear selections (and one full CD) from artists not (yet) represented in the Moon library. Plus one tune at the end from a band with one song in the library. (correction...the first two bands also have one song each in the library...hooray!) Recordando o vale das macas - from "1977-1982" Raio de Sol 6:08 As Criancas da Nova Floresta 18:10 Sorriso de Verao 3:00 Some music from a compilation CD of a Brazilian band I picked up a month or so ago. Rustic, sometimes symphonic, fairly pleasant music. H2O - from Unopuntosei (1997) and Due (2001) Stop 7:07 Due 16:32 H2O 10:56 Il Cimitero Degli Elefanti 19:25 I'm way behind on the Italian prog. there is so much of it out. This is typical of the output from Italy, so you should enjoy this too. Stackridge - from The Man In The Bowler Hat (1973) and Extravaganza (1974) Benjamin's Giant Onion 4:02 Rufus T. Firefly 4:48 No One's More Important Than The Earthworm 5:10 Who's That Up There With Bill Stokes? 4:36 These four are from Extravanganza - The second side of the record is much more progressive in a jazzy way, sort of like the great 70's band If. The first side is painfully Beatlesque and quite strange.....good stuff. The Last Plimsoll 4:31 The Road To Venezuela 4:52 God Speed The Plough 5:30 A bit quieter, these are from Bowler Hat. A slice of 70's Britian. And a tip of the Bowler Hat to Rogor Mortis, who recommended these artists for me to hear. Bring your motion sickness pills... From Brazil to Italy to the UK we head to Germany (and LA!) - Martin Motnik - "Bass Invader" (2005) Bee On Speed Delayed Where's the Referee? Disease Arizona Sunset Don't Forget to Floss! Recepcion con champan Vinyl Concerto Stages of Ages Pickpocket Prelude King of the Monsters Simpsons' theme YYZ Bee on Weed A myspace find....finally got around to buying the disc. Most of the sounds are Martin on bass. Mattias Eklundh plays on YYZ and the overly wanky Bee On Speed. Drums are handled by Gregg Bissonette, a well-traveled musician. After the opening song I was expecting an edgier sound but was pleasantly surprised by some of the arrangements and the quieter songs. It's a treat, and Martin's bass playing is astounding. A lot of fun. Grand Funk Railroad - "Into The Sun" from "On Time" My GFR collection has holes in it - I treated myself to their first disc, and here's a song from it to close us out for the week. Next week: I thought I was done with 2007, but several purchases indicate otherwise. The feature disc will be from the incredible Black Bonzo. |

Re: Rickter Scale - Show 162 - "Not On The Moon But Still Pretty Damn Good"
Bless you Rick, you always seem to pick my favorites, either new bands for me that become favorites (e.g., Salem Hill, Steve Unruh, and many more), or ones from the past, e.g. GFR's Into the Sun. I seem to remember Stackridge, but I'm not sure. Looking forward to that, like a bee on speed.

Rick - I'm salivating at the thought of the Black Bonzo feature! I've heard a couple of tracks from the album - the title track, Sound Of The Apocalypse, is absolutely stunning.
Your shows are one of the highlights of my week.

Thank you both! It gets a bit difficult to pull these together but it's all worth it when I hear the feedback
