Beardfish - Ritual - The Tangent in Bielefeld

The gig of the 3 bands was in a place called "The Movie" in Bielefeld. It is a Disco which occasionally is used for prog gigs. Only problem with the gigs over there is, that just after the gigs Disco begins and the bands have to leave just in time without the possibility to play the one or other encore.

As announced at the Dave-O-Progshow nearly half a year ago, Tangent wanted to experiment with a multiple band gig around Europe. The outcome is this tour together with Beardfish and Ritual.

In Bielefeld unfortunatelly only 70 to 80 ppl attended the gig, so from the economic side this was not a highlight for the bands.

Beardfish opened the session, playing aprox 45 min. As their music is not 100% my cup of tea, I can only state, that technically it was perfect and the listening crowd liked it a lot.

After a short break, in which instruments were changed etc, Ritual made their appearance. They played aproximatelly 60 min, as last song the "A dangerous Journey" epic from their last Album. What a great performance. Never heard Ritual too much and did not have a CD from them (till today ), but they got 2 new fans today...

After another short break changing the instruments, Tangent played their 75 min gig. Unfortunatelly Theo Travis was not with them, and on guitar was Krister Johnson, and not Jacko, who played on the last Tangent CD. Nevertheless, it is the third time I see Tangent life (or better said Andy with friends). As always, it was superb. After a couple of pieces of the new album (Not as good as the Book), they played also the elder stuff. Before a last, long medley of many tunes, Andy did a "acoustic" solo only him and the keyboards. Was just great..

It was nice to see, how the three bands helped each other on changing the stage (Andy:"Tangent is the road crew of Beardfish, Beardfish is the road crew of Ritual and Ritual is the road crew of Tangent..")

We had an excellent time, and I really hope to see these bands again, but then for a complete 150 min gig..

Shame this didn't happen before Rosfest as then we could have got you both over for Ritual.........

Lotus thanks for the reviews , Been following these bands and all are excellent but have never seen them. Sharing your experience makes me want to.
