Rickter Scale Show 182 - Nearfest 2008 preview

airing Sunday, June 8 from 8-11 PM EST and Monday, June 9 from 1-4 PM EST

Ten years the Northeast Art Rock Festival (NEARfest) has been the the place to be, and I've been fortunate enough to attend them all. This will be the 4th year I will be dedicating a show to artists that will be playing in that year. No anecdotes this week, just the songs -

Banco Del Mutuo Soccorso - Dopo...niente e piu stesso
Banco Del Mutuo Soccorso - Il Giardino del Mago
Liquid Tension Experiment - Freedom of Speech
Synergy - Legacy
Koenji Hyakkei - Grembo Zavia
Peter Hamill - A Louse Is Not A Home
Van Der Graaf Generator - Killer
Van Der Graaf Generator - Architectural Hair
Radio Massacre International - Rain Falls In Grey
Fish - The Perception of Johnny Punter
Fish - Credo
Echolyn - Winterthru
Echolyn - Suite For The Everyman
Discipline - Mickey Mouse Man
Discipline - Crutches

Not many songs, but a full three hours' worth. Here's hoping Discipline pulls out a little Mickey Mouse...had the pleasure of seeing that done at Progday the year before Nearfest was born (which is the version we will hear).

Next week is the full Beardfish and Matthew Parmenter CD's from 2008, and a few new King's X cuts and a lady from Wisconsin playing some geetar. And then a week off!

Beardfish was probably my favorite cd from last year (sadly did'nt make it on the moon poll). King's X is my favorite band. Way to go Rick, I'll be tuning in. BTW what do you think of the new KX?

I have a post on Progressive Ears that I will cut and paste later...basically, after Tape Head I've been disappointed. Manic Moonlight is really good - I didn't like it at first (it's muddy) but the songs are wonderful. But Bulbous, Ogre, BLS....a letdown.

The four songs I'm playing are among the best they've done...but I miss the funky and the minor beats...too much like a straight rock band on the remaining cuts...but I still bought it

But we agree they're great live...I've missed them for three years now...will you see them with Extreme this year?

By the way, I just looked into the dog's eyes on your avatar. Very intimidating...

In the next three weeks the Europeans will be focusing on the Euro 2008 if you just wondering why it is so quiet overseas...
