Maybe I'm Just Thick or Summat

Let me get this right. People are requesting time and time
again the likes of Yes and Genesis. Why on earth would anyone
use valuable request time to request time and time again the
same tracks to stream down at 56k? Any even half decent lover
of progrock should own most of the top 20 on CD, especially
all the Yes. And any even half decent lover of progrock should
support their favourite bands by getting the beggars bought if
they like them so damn much.

No offence to the AM staff but 56k just doesn't do the music any
favours at all. The AM staff know this and have asked for help
and suggestions to fund a 128k stream.

I just cannot for the life of me grasp how anyone can pass up
the golden opportunity to listen to many many different bands
that are offered by AM, but to listen just to their favourites at a
lesser quality. Beats me.

Moving on and aimed at the AM staff. Is there any chance of a
second stream, one that is devoid of Yes and Genesis or one
that follows but one hour later. I have nothing but praise for
AM and I love the station to bits but I simply am not keen on
Yes and Genesis. My best friend is fanatical on both though.

I listen so often and for so long it is a wonder I am not banned
but I am left helpless when a 20 plus minute Yes or a Genesis
'Broadway' comes on and they do - often.

Moving on again and again aimed at the AM staff but last week
you played Snow Goose twice in the same day I believe. I like
Camel quite a good deal but to play a near 45 minute track, once
is bad enough but twice. I would much rather you play 22 four
minute tracks. If someone wants such a long track they always
can request it.

Lastly. I was going to start a new thread but here is a link

http://ubl.artistdirect.com/

Using the search engine, I learned a lot about the many many
artists on AM that I know nothing about

And as for request times. I use a 'countdown timer' called
Laundry Timer. It works a treat and lets me know when my
60 minutes are up. Stacks similar freely available.

Maybe not so thick and stupid after all.

My compliments to all forum contributors for no slagging or
bad language.

Another good place to find out about unfamiliar bands is.....
www.allmusic.com ...then just type in the name of the band!

You can be sure that if Snow Goose played twice in one day, it was requested at least one of the two times and probably both. I personally haven't spun that track in weeks, and I'd guess the same is true of Avian. (I like it, but I own the CD.)

Amen to that - I've been thinking of perhaps bringing on some additional DJ to take hold of things when Jim or I can't spin the tunes and supervise requests. If you're interested, give me a shout.

BTW, I think I fixed the GMT time problem on the boards. exPurple, are the GMT times now showing up correctly?

The Snow Goose thing was two separate requests (I found it in the logs)- doh!

You have no argument from me about a 128k stream - it's really just a matter of money. It would double the already steep costs of operating the station month to month.

I love the laundry timer idea. I wonder if I could find or adapt a javascript program connected to AM that would pop up counting down from 60 minutes after you made a request. Thanks for the inspiration!

Another idea that you could have would be to have limited hours
where requests would be not be honored. So, for example, you
could say that everyday between 2 - 5 PM (Central time) requests
will not be played, and the playlist will be left to you or Jim, or
the random playlist generator.

Also, a link from these forums (somewhere) back to the main page
or main menu may help as well. If some people only use one
window for AM, they would have to revert to their bookmarks
to go back to the main page.
