Please, again with this?
It just goes on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and will it never end on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and will it ever do anything different on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and can one post be as boring as Philip "boring" Glass? on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and let's find out on and on and on and on and on and on and on and shall I just keep typing until I hear a change of melody on and on and on and on and on and on and or tone on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and or tempo on and on and on and on and on and or accent on and on and on and on and on and on and or timbre on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and or anything on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and or shall I just keep going until everyone's tearing their hair out on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and and then without any rhyme reason or fanfare, suddenly sto |

New Year's Resolution
I've resolved to never say anything negative about an artist's work, so I'm not discussing PGlass, or Heon, or Celestial Navigations.
Happy New Year! |

didn't we have this dance?
Didn't you do a thread on this before just recently? Quite funny but I think we know how you feel.
For the record, I dislike his music. It's a bathroom break for me. Oh and add Citizen Cain to the bands we won't talk negatively about. ![]() |

I've heard music I like, here; dislike, find boring, find interesting, find adequate as background music and find phenomenally beautiful. Glass's 2 songs fall entirely outside those categories. They are agressively devoid of content and long purely and solely for the purpose of spending more time doing the same thing over. Quote:
I think I let 15 minutes of it wash over me before the insidious banality of it finally drove me to distraction. Frankly, I'm not one for criticizing things I don't like either. But sometimes a line get's crossed and my line was crossed when the unchanging brain curdling monotony passed the 15 minute barrier. |

I've got "Music In Twelve Parts" sitting next to me, and when I feel up to the task, I'm going to listen to it again and decide which parts, if any, I'm going to keep on the playlist.
This was sort of an experiment on my part gone wrong. I do like Philip Glass, at least some of his stuff. But, Music in 12 Parts is not truly a piece of music. To quote the liner notes, it is "a deliberate, encyclopedic compendium of some techniques of repetition..." I did not know this when I bought it. I had heard a few 30 second sound clips, and most any 30 second portion of this 3 disc set (!) sounds pretty good, IMO. When I received it and listened, I was, um, surprised. I put it on the station to see what responses we'd get. What I've found is most specific responses to "12 Parts" are negative; many general responses to Glass are positive or at least neutral. If the only Glass you've heard is something from 12 parts, please, at least refrain from a final opinion until you hear something from "Glassworks" or "The Photographer", both also on the playlist. If you've heard those and don't like him, I respect your opinion. I'll post again when I've made my final decision, and keep the comments coming! |

I'll be open to hearing other stuff providing someone tells me it's "completely different" from this deliberate exercise in monotony. |
