Question The 56k Feed

I listen to Aural Moon, on a LAN connection where I work, and the quality seems to leave something to be desired. All the other streaming mp3 stations I listen to, are no problem. The main problem is, it skips and fades in and out quite a lot. I still love your station, and that doesn't distract me from listening. Do you have any suggestions on tweaks to Winamp to help correct this, because I've tried about everything? thanks, and keep up the great programming.

My requests are usually always King Crimson, and Van der Graaf Generator. Maybe a little IQ and Dream Theater too.

Well first off, what server are you listening to? Are you by chance listening to the live365 relay?

Because we are operating on a cable modem connection, there are some times when the station will "rebuffer." But if this is happening for you very often, then something else is probably wrong.

I'm not sure what you mean by "fading in and fading out." Can you elaborate?

Yes, I'm listening to the "live365" feed, which is the link you provide under your 56K link. Is there another link that I should be using? I go directly to your web site, and use the link there, so hopefully if there is another faster feed, you would be displaying it. The fading in and out is just that, I don't know how else to describe it. It's not rebuffering, it just gets weak in the audio where it fades out and then back to normal. It's not a lost of signal, just more like Net slowdown that impedes a nice smooth signal.

If you click on 'Listen Cable", you will not get the live365 server - you will get the main server. The address is http://live.str3am.com:2010. The Live 365 server is only available on the web page if you go down to "servers" on the main page, and click on the relay server 56k link. You can always tell the live365 link since the audio will say "Live365!" before the stream starts.

I'm assuming you're using a cable modem or DSL. If you are using a dialup modem, you'd click on the "Listen Modem" link on the main page. It's address is http://live.str3am.com:2020. It also has a live365 relay, available, by going ot the "servers" part of the main web page.

The music is digital - it cannot vary in quality - either you get the music on your computer, or you don't. Are you getting interference on your speakers?

Are you using a Mac?
