New music that might interest you

Hi

Here is some music you might be interested in. After a year in the making, we just released our debut prog cd. We are influenced by Yes, ELP, Genesis, Kansas & Steely Dan. You can hear some clips here:

Azureth music clips

Here is a full length song:

Wake The Dragon

The main page is here:

Official Home page

If you would like full wav, wma's, mp3's or a demo cd - I would be happy to send you one. Of course the cd sounds much better than these mp3 clips

Thanks for your time!

checked it out

It's pretty good! Listened to the full song, and the clips too. Melodic, very much classic progressive.....

Like the Terry Kath reference on the bio. He was a hell of a player.

Agree that it's pretty good. I couldn't get the clips to play, but I listened to the whole song and I liked it. Azureth, I've sent you a Private Message with my address so you can send a demo CD for us to add to the station...

Thanks for the listen folks! Yep Rick, Terry Kath has always been one of my favorites! Too bad he is not with us any longer. When they sing 'the day the music died' in American Pie, I always think of him.

Thanks Jim, got your pm and it's on the way!

Sounded great to these British ears............nice one guys!!!!

Looking forward to hearing more when the CD gets to officer jim for uploading.

I, too, was a fan of Terry Kath and still regret the fact that he's no longer here.

btw. I tried to buy the CD from your Web Site and clicking on the Credit Card purchase I immediately got an error message and the transaction couldn't be completed. It seems that there are characters that PayPal doesn't recognise.

How can I get a copy because....do I want a copy or what????

Hmmm, try refreshing your browser, I just tested it and it's fine now, just close the browser, go here:

http://www.azureth.com/azureth_store.htm

Then click the Refresh button or select that from the browser menu. After you do that, click on the order button, should be OK now :-)

Error Detected invalid characters....
The reason that error happens is whenever I make changes to that page with a regular HTML editor, I lose the special characters that are embedded in Paypal's encryption code, so I have to open that page in Notepad and add back the encryption afterwards, and a lot of times I'll make changes to that page and forget to "re-paste" back in the encryption !!!

Not Paypal's fault, just lazy, forgetful me

stephen- i'd go so far as to say we're experiencing
a "progressive revival".

i'd like nothing more than the indie stations and
djs to be the source of the next wave, develop
relationships w/ the indie artists much like record
companies and commercial radio.

IMO- this is the vetting system the OMDs need,
the "missing link".

I agree kirk. And it's places like Aural Moon and it's people who are making it happen.

The "Prog revival" that took place in the UK during the 80s with bands like Haze, Twelfth Night and IQ was good but nothing like the surge of interest in Prog that is going on at the moment.

More power to bands like Azureth who, through their love of the genre and their talent, keep the flag flying.

yes, this could be the cutting edge.

i've made the decision that our next tune "majiker"
will skip the OMDs altogether, be presented exclusively
to the indie stations and djs.
so far, the response by member stations of
progradio.net has been 100%
( "progressive soundscapes" actually aired
the demo snip, "progressive positivity" plans a
"zenpool week" next month).

IMO- it's a win-win for all involved.
rather than " please visit----.com, d.l. my music for free",
the artist's promo will go to directing the fanbase to
the stations playing the tunes.

it's my view that the free download OMDs
will be seen as "the minor leagues", a place for
beginning artists to polish, receive feedback.
the indie stations (whether they realize it or not)
are standing in the middle ground between the beginner
and a future distribution deal, recording contract.

imagine what the result would be if the
"next big prog band" comes from aural moon....

Now that's the type of forward thinking that prog ppl are capable of. Take the music to the ppl who actually want to hear it. I personally don't have time to download songs just to listen to them to see if I like them. That seems such a crapshoot anyway. Seems to me you only attract ppl who like to download music and they don't really buy music.

You can tell from the post on this website about how many cds have you purchased because of Aural Moon that the listeners here spend their money on the music they hear and like.

Way to go Kirk!

Now that would rule. But I have a question: what does OMD stand for?
No "Orchestral Manouvers in the Dark" replies please

A mini essay on "The Prog Revival"

In my view, the big prog revival went unnoticed because it went by a slightly different name. Now, when most people speak of a prog revival they usually mean artists that follow in the footsteps on other prog bands. I'm thinking more in an ideaological way.

In the late 60s and early 70s, a new form of rock was born because some musicians took the musical vernacular at the time and then went forward into more complex and experimental areas. This rock had "progressed" beyond normal rock and was dubbed "progressive rock."

The exact same thing happened in the 90s, but the prog world missed it. Punk and grunge were the rock vernacular of the early 90s. Then, as before, a group of musicians took the form and went forward into more complex and experimental areas. This rock was what musicians tended to evolve to "after" they got tired of playing punk, hard-core, emo, and grunge, and was dubbed "post rock."

But since these complex and experimental post-rock bands evolved out of the punk and hard-core scene instead of the prog scene, the prog scene didn't notice. Besides, by that time prog was a dirty word and these new bands didn't want it anyway.

A perfect example of this is the band Mars Volta. There was a raw, aggresive, hard-core/punk band called At the Drive-In. They had an artsy flair to them. After 4 discs, they broke up. Two of the members formed Mars Volta with other players. Mars Volta is getting reviewed at different prog sites on the web because of their evolving sound. For instance, here's a clip from Progarchives.com: "They may have evolved beyond AT THE DRIVE-IN, but they still show hints of that hardcore/punk style that they had previously mastered, and this may bother some people. The vocals are also a bit over the top, and could easily scare some people off. They make some very good music though, and it should appeal to most prog fans."

Examples of post-rock bands are Don Caballero, Mogwai, Billy Mahonie, Slint, Unwed Sailor, Sigur Ros, Godspeed You Black Emperor!, Macha, Physics, Pele, The Roots of Orchis, Oma Yang, Tortoise, A Minor Forest, American Football, Tristeza, The Album Leaf, To Rococo Rot, A Small Good Thing, Lumen, Early Day Miners, Ui, The Swords Project, Woe, The Sea and Cake, Dirty Three, A Silver Mt. Zion, Labradford, Aix Em Klemm, Couch, Shark Quest, Do Make Say Think, Tarentel, and hundreds of others.

All that to say, while not identical musically, there was a progressive revival in the 90s that shared identical ideoligies and M.O.s. And it continues to this day.
