Rickter Scale Show 202 - "Frogs and Toads"

airing Sunday, November 9 from 8-11 PM EST and Monday, November 10 from 1-4 PM EST

Despite the name, no warts this week. After seeing Mahogany Frog last month at Orion Studios (and enjoying quite a bit of post-show fun), I wanted to get their music played on the show. I bought their three discs, the latest of which is on the Moon. Since such a large portion of the show was dedicated to their music, I decided to make the whole three hours about our amphibious friends.

Mahogany Frog - from "On Blue" (2005):

Baroque
Zulumatic
Sanchhez Says
Uxb41

from "DO5" (2008):

T-Tigers and Toasters
You're Meshuggah!
Demon Jiggling Spoon
Lady XOC and Shield Jaguar

from "vs. Mabus" (2004):

Sppoky
St. Helga of Argyle
Boatalone (We're Not Sailing In This)

Fascinating instrumental prog from far-reaching places such as Flin Flon, Manitoba (the birthplace of Bobby Clarke, my all-time favorite player)

(folks, THAT"S a hockey player),

this band uses some old-school keyboards such as the Farfisa to create some killer jams. Outstanding rhythm section too.

Also:

Peter Gabriel - Kiss That Frog
Smokin' Granny - Toad Pizza
Isotope - Frog
Ambrosia - Mama Frog
Frogg Cafe - Space Dust, Gagutz, Il Gioco (two of which also from the fabulous Orion)
Protokaw - Quantum Leapfrog
ELP - Bullfrog
Nova - The Princess and the Frog

Songs that fit the theme, and also happen to be great tunes.

And:

Toad - from "Toad" and "Tomorrow Blue" (1972)

Cottonwood Hill
Pig's Walk
Thoughts
Fly

Some fabulous hard rock that I've played on the show, and was turned on to from Cozy's Interzone show a little over a year ago. I had never heard of these guys, amazing given my predilection for this type of music. Outstanding musicianship that rocks your frog balls off.

Next week I have to ramp up for the youth basketball league, and I will be away Sat-Mon seeing Discipline et al in Detroit. So no show.

See you in two weeks, ribbit!
