Their album Liberation felt very Rush-like to me, particularly in song construction. Its length aside, "The Lhasa Road" felt like it would have fit right in with Rush's late-80s/early-90s albums.

Admittedly, Rush's late-80s stuff is my favorite period in their career, whereas I find their 70s (pre-Moving Pictures) stuff to be (to put it mildly) weak (Permanent Waves is the earliest Rush album I own). So if Rush to you is 2112 and its contemporaries, then I'd say we're just looking at Rush from completely different perspectives.
