Re: Steely Dan
You can count me as a Fan of the Dan...and it's hard to pick a favorite. I like the Scam, Katy, Aja, Gaucho, but Countdown is an all-time classic! I've said before that the Dan may not be prog, but certainly progressive!

Don't get me wrong ST and MO fans, there's nothing wrong with them, but IMHO they are more closer to Pop. BTW: Ther is a whole host of Jazz Fusion on this site which I definitley love: RTF, Al D., Jean Luc etc. |

Not everyone can be pleased 100%, but Jim does a great job of arbitrating what goes on the Moon. That's why I will play music that may not be easily approvable (my Zep show, blocks of Iron Maiden, Tool) but never push for inclusion (although I firmly state that Metal does not mean non-prog). The only beef I ever have is excluding selected tracks. Take the aforementioned Supertramp. I don't agree that "Give A Little Bit" should be excluded...so what it's overplayed - it's a great song. Jadis for instance is more pop consistently than that song. But again, it's really hard to say "this band is on so this shouldn't either". And I can always play it myself at home. I don't care for the Strawbs, and think they're not prog (and yes I know it's not a popular opinion) but I'd never ask for removal, or inclusion of Fairport Convention. Jazz fusion (maybe my favorite genre) is a tough call. There are many more artists that could be added, but the genre is so overloaded, so we only have the big names. As usual, I've become so long-winded I lost my train of thought.... ![]() |
